The members of the Dixie Baptist Church located west of Jasper will celebrate the 160th year of the church on Sunday, July 21, 2013, in a special program to begin at 3:30 p.m.

Guest speakers will include Texas State Senator Robert Nichols of Jacksonville along with State Representative James White of Warren and others.

Special Guest Speaker for the event will be Rev. Drayton Garner of the Sandhill Baptist Church in Nacogdoches and Walter Diggles of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments will serve as Master of Ceremony.

The church, which was 1853 by people who were in slavery is said to be the oldest African-American Church west of the Mississippi River. It has long been listed on the list of Texas Historical Sites.

The church is located on County Road 99, just off of Farm to Market Road 2799.
