It’s Fire Safety Week, and Jasper firefighters have been visiting schools and speaking to students about that very subject.

The Jasper Fire Marshal’s Office is also handing out literature with safety tips. In addition to calling 911 if you have a fire, and stop, drop, and roll if you are ever actually on fire, the pamphlet also offers other tips such as safety with stoves, clothes dryers, heaters, and other appliances wich produce heat and could be a fire hazard.

The pamphlet also encourages families to have a plan set in place on how to escape a house if it should catch on fire, and a meeting point for all family members to meet once out of the house.

Additionally, the pamphlet implores readers to have at least one, and preferably several working smoke detectors inside the home.

If you want more information on fire safety, contact Jasper Fire Marshal Brandon Duckworth at 409-384-4651.
