A memorial service for Ricky Issac, Jr., a former resident of Bon Wier who died on Saturday in nearby Louisiana, will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Event Center in downtown Natchitoches. A visitation will be held, beginning at 5:00 p.m., prior to the service. Funeral services locally will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, at Newton High School.
A graduate of a Newton High School and a former member of the Newton Eagles football team, Isaac was a deputy for the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Department, and he died as the result of injuries he received when the patrol car he was driving left the road and hit some trees on Highway 1, just south of Natchitoches. Officers said the accident occurred as Isaac was responding to a call during a heavy rain shower, and it is believe that the vehicle hydroplaned on the roadway.
Following the accident, Isaac was taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later, despite the efforts of doctors to save his life.
After graduating from Newton High School, Isaac attended Northwestern State University at Natchitoches, where he was later judged to be the Demon’s Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2011.
Twenty-four year old Issac is survived by his wife, Akilah, who was a former Lady Demon basketball player, who is currently carrying his child and expected to have the baby in early spring.
