KTRE 9 News in Lufkin is reporting that a Hemphill man lost his life in a weekend accident in Sabine County. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at about 3:40 Sunday morning on Farm to Market Road 1592, almost one mile off of Highway 103.

The report said that 21-year-old John Shannon Cox, Jr., who was a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the report, the SUV, which was driven by Robert Hamilton, unknown age, was traveling southbound on FM 1592 when the vehicle left the highway and overturned.

Hamilton was treated and later released from a Hemphill hospital.

DPS said neither man was wearing a seatbelt.
