An early Tuesday evening accident a few counties north of here has claimed one life and left three others injured. The Texas Department of Public Safety says it happened shortly before 6:00 on U.S. Highway 96 in Shelby County when a truck driver was traveling too fast and his rig crashed into the rear of a passenger car that had stopped and was waiting for a chance to make a left-hand turn off of the highway.

The 18-wheeler then rolled over after the crash.

Troopers say a passenger in the car, Natibida Ramirez, 41, died at the scene while the driver of the car, Magdiel Cruz , of Tenaha, and another passenger, a 14-year-old boy, had serious injuries and at last word were undergoing treatment in a Nacogdoches hospital.

The truck driver, 51-year-old Derek Lampkin, of Lufkin, was treated and released from a hospital in Carthage.
